District Justice Joseph A. Tringali in 1978

"Back in the late 60's -- as if you couldn't tell by the picture -- I convinced some fellow law students we needed a Law Fraternity."

"We chose Phi Alpha Delta, the nation's largest, and we named our chapter in honor of Carlos C. Alden, who had been a dean of the law school for thirty years.  (Yes, he was a direct descendant of 'the' John Alden!)"

Chartered in 1969, the Alden Chapter is still going strong at the University at Buffalo Law School.

In addition to being a charter member of Alden Chapter, Mr. Tringali was its first vice-justice.  After graduation he served as alumni advisor, and in 1976, he was appointed District Justice for New York, Massachusetts and Conneticut.  He was one of the first winners of the Stan Jones Award for being the fraternity's "Outstanding District Justice of the Year," an honor he shared with Hector Mendez-Loucil, Esq., of Puerto Rico.

In 1984, District Justice Tringali was elected to the International Tribunal where he presided over cases and controversies for two years. He is still an active member of the fraternity, and in 2005 he and twenty-two other Phi Alpha Delta members were admitted to the bar of the United States Supreme Court.
