Senior Navigator and Life Member . . . a lifetime of education and service.

Joseph A. Tringali began his life-long journey with United States Power Squadrons when he was still in high school.  "I took the introductory course -- in those days it was called 'Piloting, Seamanship and Small Boat Handling' -- at Hamburg Power Squadron during my senior year," Joe recalls.  "I was the youngest person in the class.  I loved doing the navigation problems and laying out course lines on a chart."

"My father died a couple of weeks before my high school graduation, and my mother and I moved into Buffalo.  The Squadron, like many other things, was put on hold while I went to college. I picked it up again when I was in law school, and along with taking the advanced grade courses, I became involved in the life of Buffalo Power Squadron.  I was elected commander in 1981."

In 1994, while a member of Palm Beach Sail and Power Squadron, Past Commander Tringali successfully completed every advanced and elective course offered by USPS and was awared the grade of "Senior Navigator."  Then it was on to life membership.

Squadron members who perform active service for USPS earn one -- and only one -- "merit mark" for the year in which the service was performed.  In 2005, P/C Tringali earned his twenty-fifth merit mark, marking a quarter century of service to USPS and making him eligible for life membership.  At the annual meeting in January, 2006, P/C Tringali received his life member award from then Chief Commander G. Leslie Johnson, SN, and later that year was recognized by members of District 8, United States Power Squadrons.
